Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about selling your car with Cars for Cash Wales.

About the quote

What types of cars do you buy?
We buy most types — used cars in good condition, high-mileage vehicles, cars with faults, accident-damaged vehicles, non-runners and scrap cars. If you're unsure, request a quote and we'll let you know.
How do I get a quote?
Fill in the free quote form on our homepage. You'll need your registration number, mileage, an estimate of the vehicle's condition and your postcode. We'll contact you directly with an offer.
Is the quote really free and no obligation?
Yes. There is no charge for requesting a quote and no obligation to accept any offer we make. You can walk away at any point before a sale is formally agreed.
How accurate will the initial quote be?
The more accurately you describe your vehicle's condition, the more realistic the initial offer will be. All offers are subject to physical inspection of the vehicle on collection.
What if the vehicle's condition is different on inspection?
If the vehicle's actual condition significantly differs from the information provided, the offer may change. We'll always discuss this with you transparently before proceeding.

Collection and payment

Is collection really free?
Yes. Collection is free of charge across Wales once a sale has been agreed. There are no fees deducted from the agreed price after acceptance.
How long does the process take?
We aim to respond to enquiries within a few hours during business hours. Once a quote is agreed, collection can typically be arranged within a few days at a time that suits you.
How and when will I be paid?
Payment arrangements are confirmed clearly before we collect your vehicle. The method and timing will be explained to you directly as part of the sale agreement.
Do I need to bring the car to you?
No. We come to you. Collection can be arranged from your home, workplace or another agreed location within our coverage area.

Documents and ownership

What documents will I need?
Ideally the V5C logbook, any service history and your MOT certificate. Photo ID will also be required. If you don't have the V5C, let us know when you request a quote and we'll advise on the options available.
Can I sell without a V5C?
In some cases. Contact us before requesting a quote and we'll explain the options. The process may be slightly different without the logbook.
Who handles the DVLA notification?
We do. Once the sale is complete, we notify the DVLA that the vehicle has changed hands. You'll no longer be liable for tax or other charges from that point.

Finance and other situations

Can I sell a car with outstanding finance?
In many cases, yes. You'll need an up-to-date settlement figure from your finance provider. The agreed sale amount can be put toward settling that balance. Please mention the finance when requesting your quote and we'll walk you through the process.
Do you buy non-running or damaged cars?
Yes, in many cases. Please describe the situation accurately — for example, whether the vehicle starts, any known faults, and the nature of any damage. This helps us provide a realistic offer.
Can I sell a SORN vehicle?
Yes. Let us know the vehicle is on SORN when you request your quote and we'll factor it into the collection arrangements.
